How often should I replace toner cartridge

To a large extent, the way you use the printer determines the service life of the toner cartridge. The more you print, the more often you replace it. In addition, its replacement frequency is also determined by its page yield. The more page yield they provide, the lesser the replacement frequency.  If you use the printer frequently and the print volume is large, it is recommended to use a high-yield toner cartridge, which is more cost-effective and less frequent.

The cartridge is generally valid for 24-36 months. After opening the cartridge, install it in the machine and use it up within six months. Please use the unopened cartridge within the validity period indicated on the cartridge package.

If you do not need to replace the cartridge, do not take out the cartridge. If you do so, the amount of toner may be reduced and the machine will not account the amount of ink remaining in the cartridge.

How to extend the cartridge life

When your printer starts to display “Toner Low” message or your print starts to fade, you may be able to extend the cartridge life to print more pages. Open the printer’s toner cartridge bracket and remove the toner cartridge. Shake back and forth to redistribute the remaining toner, then reinsert the toner cartridge into the printer. This allows you to print for an extra one or two days, depending on how much you use the printer. You can repeat this procedure several times, but it must be while you are waiting for the cartridge you already ordered.

The shelf life of the drum unit is approximately two years if the drum unit did not open and stay in its protective bag.

The protective bag of the drum unit prevents light and dust from entering and damaging the internal components of the drum unit. If you accidentally open the package and do not intend to install the drum unit immediately, please reseal the protective package with tape or glue. Before preparing to install the drum unit, store the bag in a cool and dry place in the temperature range of 32 to 104 degrees and the humidity level of 35% to 85%. If the temperature exceeds 104 degrees, below 32 degrees or above / below the humidity range, the shelf life of the drum unit will be consecutively reduced for five days.

Storage of printer cartridges and drum units

Printer cartridges and drum units usually do not expire, but they must be stored properly. They need to be stored properly to reduce the risk of damage and ensure excellent performance. In terms of toner cartridge storage, the three main keys are light, heat and moisture.

Exposure to light will eliminate the photosensitive properties of the toner cartridge.

Exposure to high temperatures can cause toner to melt in the cartridge.

Exposure to moisture can cause toner caking.

Therefore, how do we store printer cartridges and drum unit?

1. Store at room temperature. The Toner cartridges should be stored in a room at 60-75 degrees Fahrenheit. Anything above or below this temperature is either too cold or too hot.

2. Keep the toner cartridge dry. The toner cartridge should not be exposed to the humid environment in any form. 50% relative humidity is ideal for storing toner cartridges. Avoid storing in wet basement.

3. Keep the toner cartridge in its original packaging. Store the toner cartridge in its original packaging to ensure that the toner cartridge does not come into contact with any dust or debris.

4. Keep away from strong light. Avoid exposing the toner cartridge to sunlight or any other bright light. For safety reasons, it is recommended that the lights in the room where they are stored be turned off at all times or as far as possible under ideal circumstances. The drum unit is particularly sensitive to light, so this is particularly important if your toner cartridge is used in conjunction with the drum.

5. Avoid using gaseous cleaning materials. Do not store toner cartridges in closets or cabinets close to gaseous cleaning materials such as ammonia.

The Differentiation between TN760 Toner Cartridges and DR730 Drum Units

New released dr730 by Brother is so powerful to be compatible with three kinds of brother toners: tn760, tn730 and tn770. But in daily life, most people will take it for granted that they are the same things. In fact, they are different. Such these differentiations make them have a clear division of the labors and duties, and work together to form the essential parts of the laser printer.

TN760 toner cartridges vs DR730 drum unit

1、What’s the biggest difference between tn760 and dr730?

Scientifically speaking, tn760 is a container of carbon powder that is the composition of printed materials. Without toner, the printed material is still blank and there is nothing in it. And dr730 is the house shell for tn760, which is a power device that transfers the printed information such as images to the paper. Without the drum unit, the carbon powder can’t be formed the printed shapes as you expect on printed materials. On the one hand they are independent of each other, so if either of them breaks down or is used up, you just need to change the bad individual part; on the other hand, they are both indispensable for printers for they work together to finish the printing work. Therefore, if one of them is missing, the entire print process cannot be completed.

2、Different page yields determine how often they should be replaced

In contrast, tn760 has been replaced more often than dr730, because it has fewer pages yields and is easier to be used up. A standard tn760 can print up 3000 and high-volume dr730 can full print 12000 pages in daily use. So, if you are a user who needs high-volume printing, you will obviously feel the dr730 has a much longer life than the tn770, and the dr730 is more durable than tn760. Because of the longer service and larger print capacity, the selling price of dr730 is often more expensive than the later. Of course, the lifespan of tn760 is limited. When you replace three or four carbon powders, it turns out that tn760 should be replaced.

3、Different approaches depend on different areas of responsibility

Because of their respective roles, their respective fields are different. For example, if you find that the color of the printed material has faded, that means your tn760 carbon powder will run out, and you just need to replace a new toner. As we said previously, we don’t need to replace dr760. However, if you find that there are some black lines or irregular white stripes in your printed material, you should check your dr730. If the situation gets serious, you should replace a new one immediately rather than change a new toner.

Unlike HP brand integrated printing consumables, the designs of brother and drum is separately, which can greatly reduce the later printing costs and provide great conveniences when replacement. If you are fond of this separate structure of brother printing consumables, think about tn760 and dr730, the new version with chip for the best printouts. Although tn760 and dr730 belong to different individuals, in some places they are similar: they both are vulnerable so that we should need to maintenance them in daily use and prevent them from the harm from the outsides, at the same time, make full use of them.
