This article will help you better understand the common issue of various paper and their main uses. Let’s read on!

Common paper types

There are so many different types of printing paper, each of which has different uses and benefits. Here are some of the most popular print paper types:

Inkjet Printer Paper

This type of paper is designed for the specific purpose of inkjet printers. There are different forms of inkjet paper that can be used well with inkjet ink, including photos, glossy paper, business cards and greeting card variants.

Laser Printer Paper

Laser paper is best used with laser printers. This is more used for tasks such as printing documents, checks, and mailing labels in a business environment.

Matte

This paper is one of the most commonly used paper because it is suitable for all daily printing tasks. Matte paper has a white coating, which helps the ink dry faster than other paper types, that means it is suitable for documents that need it quickly.

Bright White

Bright white paper is smoother and no texture, so it is very suitable for high-quality and beautiful double-sided printing. The brightness of the paper ensures that it can be printed on both sides without ink on the other side.

Glossy

This paper type has traditionally been used to print images or photos rather than text because it can produce bright colors and clear images. The smooth surface absorbs ink and creates a clearer image than matte paper.

Card Stock

This strong, sturdy paper type is most commonly used in scrapbooks or printing business cards and postcards. Because it is much thicker than other types of printing paper, it is more durable and can be carried and carried without breakage.

Resume

It is slightly heavier than traditional paper and has a grayish white appearance. This type of paper is different from other forms of printing paper. Resume paper has ivory or cream color. It is often used in resumes or other important documents to show the importance of printed information.

Common paper size

What is the size of ordinary printing paper?

North American Sizes

The North American paper sizes are based on traditional formats with arbitrary aspect ratios. The most popular formats of the traditional sizes are the Letter (8.5 × 11 inches), Legal (8.5 × 14 inches) and Tabloid (11 × 17 inches) formats. You more than likely use these formats in your everyday life. Letter is the standard for business and academic documents. The Legal format is used to make legal pads, and the Tabloid format is commonly used to make tabloids or smaller sized newspapers.

In addition to the paper types mentioned above, the following paper is also very commonly used:

Common paper weight

In addition to various paper sizes, there are a variety of weights for different purposes.

The paper weight is usually measured in GSM. This represents “grams per square meter”, a measurement of paper thickness or density, which is directly related to the medium quality.

The higher the GSM value of the paper, the thicker it is. As the description implies, it represents the weight (in grams) of a piece of paper 1 meter x 1 meter square.

Usually, the thicker the paper, the more durable the paper is. Therefore, different paper weights have different uses, and thicker paper is used for more industrial purposes.

How often should I replace toner cartridge

To a large extent, the way you use the printer determines the service life of the toner cartridge. The more you print, the more often you replace it. In addition, its replacement frequency is also determined by its page yield. The more page yield they provide, the lesser the replacement frequency.  If you use the printer frequently and the print volume is large, it is recommended to use a high-yield toner cartridge, which is more cost-effective and less frequent.

The cartridge is generally valid for 24-36 months. After opening the cartridge, install it in the machine and use it up within six months. Please use the unopened cartridge within the validity period indicated on the cartridge package.

If you do not need to replace the cartridge, do not take out the cartridge. If you do so, the amount of toner may be reduced and the machine will not account the amount of ink remaining in the cartridge.

How to extend the cartridge life

When your printer starts to display “Toner Low” message or your print starts to fade, you may be able to extend the cartridge life to print more pages. Open the printer’s toner cartridge bracket and remove the toner cartridge. Shake back and forth to redistribute the remaining toner, then reinsert the toner cartridge into the printer. This allows you to print for an extra one or two days, depending on how much you use the printer. You can repeat this procedure several times, but it must be while you are waiting for the cartridge you already ordered.

Do drum unit have the shelf life?

The shelf life of the drum unit is approximately two years if the drum unit did not open and stay in its protective bag.

If the protective bag of the drum unit is lost or the bag has been opened, the drum unit is valid for six months. Once the shelf life of sealed and unsealed drum unit expires, the print quality may go down. Please replace the new drum unit in time.

The protective bag of the drum unit prevents light and dust from entering and damaging the internal components of the drum unit. If you accidentally open the package and do not intend to install the drum unit immediately, please reseal the protective package with tape or glue. Before preparing to install the drum unit, store the bag in a cool and dry place in the temperature range of 32 to 104 degrees and the humidity level of 35% to 85%. If the temperature exceeds 104 degrees, below 32 degrees or above / below the humidity range, the shelf life of the drum unit will be consecutively reduced for five days.

Storage of printer cartridges and drum units

Printer cartridges and drum units usually do not expire, but they must be stored properly. They need to be stored properly to reduce the risk of damage and ensure excellent performance. In terms of toner cartridge storage, the three main keys are light, heat and moisture.

Exposure to light will eliminate the photosensitive properties of the toner cartridge.

Exposure to high temperatures can cause toner to melt in the cartridge.

Exposure to moisture can cause toner caking.

Therefore, how do we store printer cartridges and drum unit?

1. Store at room temperature. The Toner cartridges should be stored in a room at 60-75 degrees Fahrenheit. Anything above or below this temperature is either too cold or too hot.

2. Keep the toner cartridge dry. The toner cartridge should not be exposed to the humid environment in any form. 50% relative humidity is ideal for storing toner cartridges. Avoid storing in wet basement.

3. Keep the toner cartridge in its original packaging. Store the toner cartridge in its original packaging to ensure that the toner cartridge does not come into contact with any dust or debris.

4. Keep away from strong light. Avoid exposing the toner cartridge to sunlight or any other bright light. For safety reasons, it is recommended that the lights in the room where they are stored be turned off at all times or as far as possible under ideal circumstances. The drum unit is particularly sensitive to light, so this is particularly important if your toner cartridge is used in conjunction with the drum.

5. Avoid using gaseous cleaning materials. Do not store toner cartridges in closets or cabinets close to gaseous cleaning materials such as ammonia.
